A single analytical instrument utilizes as many as 100 solenoids. The collective power consumption of all these solenoids was of great concern for the machine developer.
Their solution was the Ledex STA® Tubular Solenoid. The magnetic latching design uses power only to initiate movement of the solenoid plunger to the energized position where it is held in position indefinitely by an internal magnet. To return the plunger to its home position, a negative electrical pulse is applied to unlatch the tubular solenoid.
The customer had an application in which there was a need to open the door to vent large industrial ovens, but was unable to 
use a motor as the door must be able to be closed manually. The Size 150 Tubular Solenoid was selected, as it can be pushed back to the starting position in a manual override situation, with no resulting damage.
The Size 150 Tubular Solenoid, for long stroke, high force applications, is among the most powerful Tubular Solenoids offered by Ledex Products. The maximum torque at low duty cycles surpasses 20 pounds and can operate at strokes as long as 1 inch.
