A single analytical instrument utilizes as many as 100 solenoids. The collective power consumption of all these solenoids was of great concern for the machine developer.

Their solution was the Ledex STA^® Tubular Solenoid. The magnetic latching design uses power only to initiate movement of the solenoid plunger to the energized position where it is held in position indefinitely by an internal magnet. To return the plunger to its home position, a negative electrical pulse is applied to unlatch the tubular solenoid.
